About Jonny
After spending the first 18 years of my life growing up in South-West Wales, I spent 3 years in London studying for my Bachelor of Music degree at Goldsmiths, University of London. When my degree was finished I moved to Devon to undertake my PGCE in Secondary Performing Arts. After falling in love with this part of the country, I opted to remain in Devon for a few more years where I worked as a Teacher of Music and Music Technology in an excellent secondary school which is where I really cut my teeth as a classroom practitioner. After my first few successful years as a teacher, I decided to make a big change by moving to Kent to undertake a Head of Music position in a private secondary school. In my 4 years at this school, I transformed the culture of Music in the school exponentially and I am proud to see that the legacy I left behind still lives on today. After relocating back to Wales, I have since been working as a Head of Performing Arts in state secondary school and have used this role to truly develop my understanding of education as a whole and refine my skills as a classroom practitioner. Throughout my time in this role I have successfully completed my Master of Arts in Education at UCL, as well as my Lead Practitioner qualification through my academy trust. Helping students grow confidence and discover a passion for performing is my speciality. I am now excited to build upon this decade of invaluable experience by broadening my reach in terms of Music education, and I look forward to potentially working with you. Students who sign up for lessons with me can expect fun and vibrant lessons that are catered to the individual. My ethos is that everyone has the potential to be a successful musician regardless of background - it's my job to find that hidden potential and to give my students the confidence to be amazing performers. Your first lesson with me will involve an initial discussion to work out what you want to achieve from the lessons. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who has been playing for a number of years and wants that extra bit of support and guidance, I will cater the sessions to you. Once we establish some clear goals, the lessons will involve a healthy mixture of technique, theory, but most of all playing some really fun music that will push and challenge you as a musician. If there is something specific you want to learn, let me know! If you have no clue where to begin, I’ve got plenty of great songs and exercises we can work through. Remember that these lessons are about your goals - it’s my job to help you achieve them. For those wanting to make some serious progress, I’d recommend booking a block of lessons. We can then establish an overall goal for your learning journey, as well as smaller goals for each individual session. However, the most important thing is that I make the lessons personalised for you! Regardless of what you want to learn, I have the skills and experience to ensure that we can develop a personalised curriculum to suit your needs. For me, the learner is at the heart of everything I do.

Perfect! Fantastic teacher with lots of experience and patience. My daughter is very shy, nervous around new people and with trying new things but Jonny has made it very easy so she really enjoys it and looks forward to each lesson.

Jonny is a fantastic tutor and all-round great guy. It is clear he puts a lot of time and effort into his sessions, and genuinely cares about the wellbeing and progress of his students, always helping them strive to be the best they can be.
