About Kelsey
I hold a BMus in Composition from the University of Stellenbosch and a master’s degree in film scoring from the Film Scoring Academy of Europe. I have extensive experience as a professional composer, including scoring Kind, which was nominated for a SAFTA for Best Made-for-TV Movie, as well as documentaries, horror films, dramas, and international ad projects. My composition Retribution was a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, placing in the top 1% of over 14,000 entries, and also received an honorable mention in the instrumental category. I bring both academic excellence and real-world professional experience to my teaching. My lessons focus on music theory, songwriting, and composition, tailored to each student’s goals. I provide structured, practical guidance so students can develop confidence, creativity, and the skills used by working composers. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I aim to help you grow as a musician and composer while making the learning process engaging and effective.

I combine academic training with professional experience as a master’s-trained film composer. I tailor every lesson to your goals, whether that’s improving your high school subject music theory, preparing for ABRSM or Trinity College exams, or developing your own knowledge and compositional abilities. Each lesson starts with an assessment of your knowledge and strengths. I introduce concepts step by step, using clear examples. Exercises at the end of each lesson help you apply what you’ve learned and build real skills. These lessons are for beginners through advanced students who want to understand music theory, improve songwriting, or learn professional composition techniques. I teach in English, focusing on practical, hands-on learning that helps every student make measurable progress.
