Professional Film Composer and University Lecturer is offering composition, music production and music theory lessons in London Battersea Music Studio

I wanted to sharpen my composition/orchestration skills and chose to study with Jan. After a few lessons (myself having played, studied and recorded music for 30 years) Jan's breadth of knowledge of and obvious passion for the subject consistently impress me. A very intuitive and generous tutor, and the lessons are exceptional value for money.

Jan William is an excellent music production tutor. He is friendly and trustworthy and he gives a lot of time and attention to the individual needs of his music students. I highly recommend him.

My nephews had an unforgettable experience with Zach and Jan as their music composition tutors. I wanted to find someone who could inspire two young musicians to take their music further and i definitely hit the jackpot. They spend the day in their impressive music studio, spending the first part of the day on music software Ableton, different ways of making sounds in the beginning (synths, sampling, improvising in Ableton, live recording). They then moved onto enabling them to do as much as they could on their own using the chords they prepared, with Tom playing the piano and William doing the counter melody in the strings, featuring samples of all their voices and glasses in the end. At the end of the four hour workshop the boys understood the basics of DAW, midi, sampling and recording and were able to go home and create things themselves after the session. The boys found it incredibly inspiring and will definitely be back again. The communication was great and i would highly recommend Zach and Jan as teachers.

Jan has been fantastic to learn with. He has a wealth of practical knowledge and breaks it down so that each session moves at a regular pace while still developing through topics. He does this by building the foundation and linking the individual topics together to form the essential practical methods. I have found it to be a real struggle to find a tutor who is both a professional in the subject but who can also teach to a professional standard. Well... Jan has it all.

Jan is an inspiring tutor for our son, who is studying towards a Level 3 Music Production Extended Diploma. He has transformed our son's learning experience. Via Zoom tutorials mainly, he has lifted our son's performance to producing really excellent work, bringing out his talent, meeting his potential. Jan is willing to lay the foundations of music production and build from here. He will work from the basics to expert level. He is an excellent teacher in every way. He is patient, systematic, provides feedback after each session and learning points. He keeps our son on track. He is completely reliable and professional. Jan has collaborated with our son in real life (Covid safe) on his college project work, enabling professional level recordings of compositions, plus production time and experience in Jan's London studio. The music our son has produced, with Jan's support is startlingly good. Jan is a great role model. I hope Jan will continue to inspire and tutor our son in the months and years ahead.

I’ve been having film composition lessons with Jan for several months and his lessons have been so helpful and highly encouraging to develop my screen scoring abilities. He always prepares for the lesson with some interesting musical tools to help expanding my compositional techniques and skills. Also, as being a professional film composer, he gives me a clear advise based on his real-life experiences whenever I ask him about the film music career and the industry.
