About Abigael
Nice to meet you! I'm Abigael, a graphic novelist with over 12 years of experience as an art tutor, a BFA from the Purchase College Conservatory of Art and Design, as well as a Master's degree from the School of Visual Arts, in the subject Visual Narrative. My graphic novel "Cities of the Interior" is currently in collections such as the Stanford University and Columbia University Rare Book Libraries, amongst others. While maintaining a constant practice as an artist, I have come to see equal beauty in helping my students achieve their own artist goals, and grow in both skills and confidence. I see working with my students as a constant collaboration, no two students are the same, so no two tutoring approaches can be the same.
Some of my particular focuses are Anime and Manga style drawing, creating comics from idea to writing and drawing to self publishing, anatomy and traditional drawing techniques, multiple media from watercolor to acrylic to printmaking and even digital art. I'm happy to also help with the creation of portfolios for school or even career development for more advanced students.

My teaching approach starts with a comprehensive interview to understand the student's interests, abilities, and objectives. Together, we'll create a customized curriculum tailored specifically to your needs and interests. We can start wherever you want, from hand eye coordination drills, to detailed examination of anatomy and perspective, to discussing concepts and studying art history for inspiration. The curriculum can change based on the students evolution over time, which I find is particularly helpful for my fellow neurodivergent artists. I also think its important to match the students preferred level of intensity- we can take time to relax with fun projects, or we can push our limits for rapid skill growth, or something in between. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and inventing our own personalized study plan!
