About Alisha
I have a Master of Arts of Public and Pastoral Leadership, a Bachelor's of Exercise Science and a Yoga Teacher Trainer Diploma. I have taught exercise for over 10 years, have been a Chaplain for 6 months and facilitated Social, Art and Exercise groups for survivors of the Holocaust for a year. I was born in Canada and grew up in the evangelical church until I came back from working at an orphanage in China. I went through my own deconstruction/reconstruction of my own faith and found myself more suited in the United Church of Canada, where there was an obvious dedication to inclusivity of the LGBTQI+ community, reconciliation with First Peoples, and interfaith relationships. And, even though I still identify as Christian, I am deeply committed to building healthy relationships with those from other traditions and those from no religious affiliation at all. What I am mostly interested in is how to integrate our own spirituality as an embodied experience. Yoga is often seen in the West as just a form of exercise, (or a religion in and of itself), however, Yoga means 'union' and is a practice of how to bring the mind, body and soul into union. By using the practice and philosophy of Yoga, I hope to facilitate a practice where we can embody our lived religion, spirituality and/or philosophy in a way that doesn't just remain in the mind.

I specifically cater sessions to those who may be questioning, wrestling or exploring their own religion, spirituality or moral belief system by exploring the wisdom of the body. A rough plan of what our time could look like together is the following: a meditation followed by a reflection on what's happening in your own life (or anything else you may want to talk about) and ending with a yoga or exercise practice that can have the ability to move thoughts and wonderings from the mind and through the body.
