About Melissa

Hi, I’m Melissa, I have been painting and drawing since the age of 7 and have been a professional artist for the last 14 years. I am absolutely in love with creating hyperrealistic paintings, especially florals. But I also paint portraits, pets and the occasional landscape.

I have taught homeschoolers as well as online workshops. I have a passion for teaching people how to observe and see like an artist and to create beautiful work that they can be proud of.

I had art classes all through school and also as a school subject till Grade 12. I have a Btech degree in Performing Arts Technology I specialized in Decor Painting (now called Scenic Painting) and Properties. I have a freelance career in film industry and work as a professional fine artist in my free time.

About the lesson

Your free lesson will give us a chance to meet and for you to tell me where you are in your art journey and what you would like to achieve. I want to tailor my lessons around your personal goals and skill level.

Lessons in English or Afrikaans

Skills I can teach you:
- art materials for drawing and painting (what is worth buying, how to use it safely and effectively)
- drawing technique (pencil, charcoal or pen)
- oil painting technique
- composition
- observational skills
- colour theory
- promoting your art on social media
And more

I am a realism painter so abstract art is not something I am familiar with, but I can still teach you how to work with oil paints and how to promote your work if you would like to sell it.
