About Kieran
Hi, I’m Kieran! I’m an Aeronautical Engineer with a focus on vehicle dynamics and control. My career has seen me work on Formula One cars, multicopter UAVs, Rockets + Satellites. I’m passionate about making the software, mathematics, and physics behind engineering feel engaging and practical for my students—showing you how the concepts you’re learning now will directly support your future in the workplace.
About Me
I graduated with a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London in 2019, and have had over 7 years of professional experience.
My roles have included:
- Vehicle Dynamicist at Williams Formula One Team
- Flight Dynamics & Control Engineer in a London startup (multicopter UAVs)
- Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer in a Paris startup (reactive rocket launch for orbital debris removal)
Having worked extensively in small, agile teams, I’ve developed broad expertise across aerospace engineering, covering mechanics, dynamics, aerodynamics, software, and electronics. This collaborative environment honed my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and work efficiently with colleagues from diverse disciplines.
What I Offer I provide tutoring across a wide range of topics at an undergraduate level, including:
- Aeronautical Sciences: Flight dynamics, control theory & optimisation, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics (including turbulence and separated flows), materials, structural mechanics
- Simulation techniques: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Mathematics: Linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical methods, nonlinear programming, statistics, machine learning
- Programming: Python, C++, MATLAB Whether you’re preparing for summer reviews, working on extra-curricular projects, tackling in-term course content, or gearing up for exams or resits, I’m here to help. I look forward to working together - please feel free to reach out!

My teaching philosophy is grounded in building a deep, first-principles understanding of core technical subjects: maths, physics, and programming; at undergraduate level. I believe genuine mastery comes from a solid foundation, so my sessions focus on developing conceptual clarity rather than rote memorisation.
Getting Started
In our first session, we’ll begin with an open conversation to get to know each other, discuss your current situation, and clarify your expectations. From there, we’ll set personalised goals and identify your strengths and areas for improvement. Typically thereafter, we'll focus per-week on what you're finding difficult at the time, with time carved out to revisit topics that you find difficult or are important for your goals.
Practical Details
- All sessions are virtual: I use an online platform with a collaborative whiteboard to explain concepts clearly and interactively.
- Each student is different, but I typically find that 1-2 hrs per session, and 1-2 sessions per week is optimal.
- During our lessons we'll keep a conversational, friendly tone - this is a safe, relaxed space - not a new source of stress.
During our time, we'll address (a combination of):
- Theory review
- Assignment support
- Problem sheets
- Coding practice
- Job Application preparation (CV & Cover feedback, interview practice)
This approach to your learning journey will be tailored specifically to your objectives, learning style, and ambitions.
I structure my lessons to promote the following:
Understanding First:
Complicated concepts in engineering are built from the combination of simple ones. We will build your foundation of the core concepts, and develop your approach to search for and identify the core element in complex problems. This is an important skill in developing your engineering intuition and your ability to communicate effectively.
Theory in Practice:
I believe understanding comes alive when you apply the theory. So I work closely with students on practical problems and coding challenges: ready to provide explanations when you need them, to reinforce and challenge your grasp of each topic.
Adaptable Explanations:
With experience in small, collaborative technical teams, I’m adept at breaking down complex ideas and explaining them in different ways to match your learning style.
Research and Exploration:
I encourage independent thinking, supporting you to research and approach new topics confidently. My aim is to equip you with the analytical skills to tackle unfamiliar problems beyond our sessions.
Context and Engagement:
I recognise that the traditional classroom often lacks real-world context for why each topic matters. In my sessions, I aim to bridge this gap by showing how each skill or concept is used in engineering practice, making lessons more relevant and engaging.
Flexible, Personalised Support:
- During term-time: Focus will be on your course syllabus and developing strong exam technique, to help you maximise your chances for long-term career success: grades and work experience.
- Outside term-time: We can build upon your foundation in supporting disciplines through project-based work, whether it’s deepening your programming skills, tackling statistics, or exploring another area of interest.
By adopting an understanding-first, personalised approach, my goal is to empower you to feel confident across a broad range of engineering and technical fields—and to become an independent, critical thinker. I look forward to supporting your learning journey!
