About Yannick

I studied Latin Jazz between 2011 and 2013 at Codarts University (World Music Academy) in Rotterdam. Between 2013 and 2017 I studied "Jazz Bass" at the Lisbon Conservatory and graduated there. Since the end of 2018 I am back in Berlin and work since then as a freelance musician and music teacher. Between Lisbon, Paris and Berlin, I have worked with a variety of musicians in recent years. Among them: Terrakota, Claudio Andrade (Seu Jorge / Gilberto Gil), Ivo Costa (Sara Tavares), Mili Vizcaino Jaen, Forro Mior, Alain Chimpen Olarte (Tito Puente), Alaa Zouiten, Momo Djender, Nuno Ferreira, Ebrima Mbye and others ,

No matter if you are a beginner or an advanced learner, we will take a close look at your interests and experiences in the test lesson and work together to develop corresponding goals for our lessons. The lessons can take place both with me and at your home. In general, a healthy mix of necessary theoretical understanding and practically oriented "fun of playing" is at the forefront. Our focus is clearly playing the instrument. This is done both through the common "practice", as well as through the interaction with "backing tracks" or me as a teacher. Due to my personal career as a musician, the focus in the classroom is on the following genres: jazz, funk, soul, latin, hip hop / rnb, pop, african music and oriental music. Here are some of my suggested topics in class after arrangement with the student Role play: - Technique: Training of motor skills with specific exercises for each right and left hand and their interaction - "vocabulary" of various music genres: ("Style-appropriate game", "Choice of Notes") - Rhythmic understanding: (Rhythm reading, " Feels "," Swing ", rhythms from all over the world: esp. Africa / South America and the" Orient ") - Reading notes and playing from the sheet: (eg JSBach," Motown ") - playing to" Play-Alongs "and created by me" Backing Tracks "-" Bass playing philosophy ": Bassist function and other functions of the other instruments - Walking Bass: (Arpeggios, Chromatic, Scales) - Theory: Arpeggios, scales and" Church Modes "," Patterns ", Function harmonik, "Voice leading" and more. -Improvisation - "Sound" in connection with playing technique, instrument and material choice - Getting to know and analyzing the game of influential bassists: like Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Pino Palladino, Richard Bona, Nathan East, Michael League, Mono Neon, Derrick Hodge, Oscar Stagnaro, Tiago Espirito Santo and many more
