About Mary
I am a primary classroom teacher working in an independent school. I have 10 years experience. I love helping students learn and feel more confident. I enjoy teaching because I like seeing that moment when something finally "clicks" for you. I believe learning can be fun and exciting when we take it step by step and work together. Everyone learns differently, so I always try to explain things in a way that makes sense to you. I'm here to support you, answer your questions, and help you feel proud of your progress.

As a private tutor, I base my teaching on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, which emphasize clear explanations, regular review, and guided practice to help students build confidence and long-term understanding. Here's how I apply these principles in my tutoring sessions: Review Prior Learning I begin each session with a quick review to reinforce previous knowledge and identify any gaps. Break Down New Material I introduce new concepts in small, manageable steps, making sure students understand one idea before moving to the next. Ask Questions Frequently I ask regular questions throughout the session to check understanding and keep students engaged. Use Clear Examples and Models I show worked examples or step-by-step models so students can see how to approach a problem or task. Guide Practice I provide support as students practice new skills, gradually reducing help as they become more confident. Check for Understanding I regularly assess comprehension with short tasks, corrections, and discussions. Build Confidence Through Success I ensure students experience success with each topic before moving on, which helps build motivation. Offer Scaffolding When Needed I provide tools like prompts, visuals, or checklists to help students tackle more difficult work. Encourage Independent Work I give students time to apply what they've learned on their own while offering guidance as needed. Review Regularly I revisit key topics each week to strengthen memory and ensure long-term learning.
