About Emma
Hello! My name is Emma and I’m a passionate tutor with a strong academic background in Mathematics, Japanese Language and Business Studies. I hold a PGCE in Mathematics from Durham University and a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese and Business Studies from Newcastle University, where I also spent a year studying abroad in Japan. My experiences, both in the classroom and in Japan, have shaped me into a tutor who strives to make a difference to student learning. Teaching is more than just a job for me – it’s a purpose in life and I love going into work every day. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and my goal as a tutor is to help you unlock that potential. What excites me the most about teaching is seeing those lightbulb moments and finally seeing one of my students overcome a barrier to learning and gaining confidence. Being a beloved traveler myself, I love learning about new cultures and countries. It is a pleasure for me to work with students from diverse backgrounds. As a dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with a PGCE in Mathematics and a degree in Japanese Language and Business Studies, my approach to tutoring is rooted in creating a personalized, student-centered learning experience. I firmly believe that every student has unique learning needs, and I adapt my methods to suit each individual’s strengths and areas for improvement. Secondly, I believe that forging strong relationships with all my students encourages a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and overcoming barriers to learning. This is especially important in subjects like mathematics, where confidence is low, particularly in young girls. Lastly, by incorporating a variety of teaching tools, such as concrete materials, visual aids, games, and online resources, I am able to make abstract concepts easier to understand and build conceptual understanding. My lessons typically range from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the student’s age and specific needs. For younger students, I can teach up to 60 minutes with regular short breaks in between to maintain engagement. I hold a PGCE in Mathematics from Durham University and a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Language and Business Studies from Newcastle University. My academic background, combined with my practical teaching experience, enables me to deliver high-quality lessons across all Primary Level Subjects and Secondary Level Mathematics. I can also teach Japanese at an intermediate level. I’ve taught students at various levels, from primary school (Kindergarten to Year 6) to higher levels, including secondary school and adult learners. I’ve also worked as a casual relief teacher and tutor, which has provided me with diverse classroom experiences and helped me develop a flexible and adaptable teaching style. This versatility allows me to work with students who need tailored support, whether it’s for exam preparation, overcoming learning challenges, or gaining proficiency in a new language. My tutoring services are available to students of all ages and academic levels.
