About Lauren
I am an undergraduate studying Politics at Durham University, where I have continued to develop a deep passion for English, shown through my role as President of the Creative Writing Society. I am also in the process of writing my own book, which I aim to have published next year.
In sixth form, I studied Politics, History, English Language, and English Literature, achieving top grades, including grade 9s in both English GCSEs and full marks in English Literature GCSE. I’m passionate about teaching English and know that it’s a subject I would wake up excited to teach every day!
Outside of academics, I enjoy college rugby, hiking, and music, and I bring the same energy and dedication to my tutoring sessions, helping students build confidence, improve grades, and develop a genuine love for English.

I have passionately tutored, over the past year, volunteering to help students at GCSE level. My tutees have made significant progress!
My tutoring approach for teaching English Language and Literature is determined and passionate. I focus on building confidence, as I know this is what brings success. I break down texts and questions into clear, manageable steps, showing students exactly what examiners are looking for. Lessons combine guided practice, as well as a range of model answers. I use targeted feedback to help students analyse language, structure, and themes effectively. Specifically, I aim to encourage students to develop critical thinking, their personal engagement with texts, and regular exam-style practice to develop timing, planning, and independent writing skills. I encourage and enable students to view text from unique and sophisticated lenses. Sessions are tailored to each student to focus on each of their needs, aiming to improve grades while creating a deeper understanding and enjoyment of English GCSE. Whether you are aiming for a grade 9, or a 4, I would love to help you achieve this!
I am prepared to tutor year 9-11, at all levels of starting ability.
