About Sierra
I am a piano tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Piano). My passion lies in creating dynamic learning environments where students grow through collaboration and shared creativity. While I teach traditional piano skills, my specialty is guiding students in group settings where music comes alive. I love working with duets, ensembles, and band-style keyboard roles that challenge students to listen, adapt, and blend with others. Lessons are designed to build rhythmic groove, teamwork, and the confidence to perform as part of a larger sound. I emphasize not only accuracy but also expression, energy, and stage presence. Over the years, many of my students have gone on to perform in school talent shows, community events, and small local concerts. Seeing them shine in these moments is one of my greatest joys as a teacher. I encourage students to share their progress with an audience, because music is meant to be experienced together. Collaboration is at the heart of my teaching. I create opportunities for students to jam, explore, and push themselves in supportive group settings. By learning with others, they discover new ways to express themselves and feel the excitement of live performance. My piano teaching methodology emphasizes body awareness, calm focus, and expressive control. I believe music flows most freely when the body is at ease and the mind is clear. Lessons begin with attention to seated posture, so students feel balanced and supported before touching the keys. From there, I guide them to shape relaxed hand arches and use fluid motion across the keyboard. These small physical details create comfort, prevent strain, and allow music to sound natural.
I also introduce visual thinking strategies, helping learners picture phrasing, shapes, and patterns in the music. This gives clarity and direction, transforming notes into expressive ideas. My approach blends mindful technique with creativity, so students not only play accurately but also with meaning.
Some learners need gentle motivation, others thrive on structured development. I adapt to both with patience and sensitivity. For those drawn to imagination, I encourage creative exploration and improvisation. For those seeking focus, I provide step-by-step guidance and steady goals.
Every lesson is designed to nurture confidence, ease, and musical expression. My aim is to help students connect deeply with their instrument and bring music to life with honesty and grace.
