About April
I have 9 years of experience teaching piano, holding a B.Mus in Piano Performance and an M.Mus in Music Education. Over the years, I have worked with learners from complete beginners to advanced students preparing for recitals, competitions, and ensemble performances. My teaching philosophy emphasises integrating technical exercises with expressive repertoire and performance skills to nurture well-rounded pianists who are confident and musically versatile.
I believe in patience, individualised instruction, and encouragement. Lessons combine technical training, music theory, sight-reading, improvisation, and collaborative exercises. I focus on creating a learning environment where students feel supported, motivated, and inspired to explore music fully, fostering both skill and artistic expression.
Outside teaching, I actively perform, study contemporary and classical repertoire, and explore new pedagogical methods to enhance my lessons. Bringing these experiences into the classroom allows learners to connect technique and artistry with real-world musical applications. Witnessing students grow in confidence, expression, and skill remains the most fulfilling part of my work.

Piano lessons reach their full potential when students combine technical skill with creative musical expression. My approach focuses on finger independence, hand coordination, sight-reading, scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, rhythm, phrasing, dynamics, and performance techniques. Lessons integrate structured technical exercises with repertoire practice, improvisation, duet playing, and ensemble collaboration. Each session is designed to be interactive, engaging, and inspiring, ensuring learners steadily improve while cultivating a love for music and confidence at the keyboard.
Lessons are carefully adapted to each student’s level. Beginners work on fundamental techniques, basic finger exercises, simple songs, rhythm practice, and sight-reading to establish a strong foundation. Intermediate learners refine hand coordination, expressive phrasing, improvisation, and more advanced repertoire. Advanced students focus on complex compositions, performance preparation, interpretation, and ensemble collaboration. Feedback, structured practice, and personalised guidance ensure consistent skill development, fostering both technical proficiency and musical artistry.
Studying piano develops technical skill, creativity, and confidence. Students gain the ability to perform independently, improvise, read music fluently, and collaborate with others. My goal is to create a supportive, motivating, and immersive environment where learners cultivate mastery, musical expression, and lasting enthusiasm for piano.
