About Chima
An alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), Chima graduated with the Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Industry Emphasis degree. He also holds a certificate in entrepreneurship as part of his undergraduate studies. During his time at UNCP, he studied with Drs. Jon & Beth Maisonpierre and Dr. Seung-Ah Kim.
Due to his immaculate training, he has a great deal of experience in numerous performance settings. In his 18+ years of playing, he has performed as a solo pianist, accompanist for choirs and solo performers, pit musician in musicals, marching band, jazz ensemble/combo pianist, church pianist/organist, and chamber ensemble member. He has also performed in popular venues including Disney World and Carowinds. He performed with the UNCP Wind Ensemble because he was one of the winners for the annual UNCP Concerto Completion.
He is the youngest active member of the Fayetteville Piano Teachers’ Association (FPTA). The FPTA is a professional organization made up of experienced teachers and performers. All other members of the association hold a master’s degree in piano. Some even hold a doctorate/Ph.D. in piano. The organization is very active in hosting things like student competition festivals, competitions, recitals, and masterclasses. More information can be found at (concealed information)
He is working towards his master's degree in music at East Carolina University. He is also the director of Music Together of Fayetteville LLC.

My primary goal for teaching piano is to encourage the student to develop a love for music. Music is something near and dear to me, and music is much more enjoyable produced by someone who shares a love for music. It is also a fulfilling experience teaching a student who is in love with music! One of my favorite quotes is by Ray Charles:
"Music is nothing separate from me. It is me...You'd have to remove the music surgically...Music to me is like breathing—I don't get tired of breathing, I don't get tired of music."
If I can get my students to feel this way about music, then I will feel that I’ve done a successful job.
I feel that many teachers get caught up with the “little things”. I am sure they mean well because they are striving for perfection. I see the value in that teaching style. I, personally, try to focus on making quality music with whatever is presented to them, however. As a pianist, I am a jack of all trades yet a master of none, and I wear that with pride. I am not a showstopper concert pianist, but I have the training and experience to create a musical performance out of whatever is presented to me – from accompanying a solo vocalist to playing in a musical to playing background music at a cocktail party. I hope to give my students the ability of versatility.
