About Matthew
As a Ph.D. candidate in Bioinformatics at the University of Guelph with extensive teaching experience and strong programming skills in R, I am eager to bring my expertise to support students in their coding journeys.
Through my role as a Teaching Assistant for multiple programming-intensive bioinformatics courses—including Bioinformatics Programming and Genomic Methods in Bioinformatics—I have developed a strong ability to teach complex coding concepts to students of varying skill levels. In these roles, I conducted virtual help sessions, provided feedback on assignments, and guided students through challenging programming exercises.

My teaching style: - Whether leading tutorial sessions, developing lesson materials, or assisting students one-on-one, I take pride in making coding accessible and enjoyable.
A typical lesson plan: -A typical lesson plan would involve covering what sorts of coding concepts/problems you find difficult to understand in your studies and then providing useful coding tutorials that will help you to better understand these concepts. Gaining hands on practice is the most essential part of my lesson plan.
What sets me apart? - My background in both research and teaching has equipped me with the ability to break down complex coding concepts into digestible lessons, ensuring students gain more confidence in their programming abilities.
