I'm Laura Amato. I'm a systems engineer, an educator, a lifelong learner, and someone who has spent most of her life trying to understand how people think, learn, and grow — especially the ones the traditional system keeps getting wrong.

I hold a B.S. in Systems Engineering from Arizona State, an M.S. in Healthcare Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and I'm currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering alongside a concurrent doctorate in Education — continuing to deepen how I serve students and families. But the credential I'm most proud of? The student who finally understood why — not just how — after years of being told they weren't "math people."

An arsenal of more subjects: I don't just teach one thing well — I teach a wide range of subjects well. My core academic areas include Math (elementary through calculus & statistics), Science, Reading & Writing, Literature, Essay & Research Writing, Creative Writing, and Technical Writing, plus STEM Enrichment, Systems Thinking, Engineering Problem Solving, Engineering Statistics, College Engineering coursework, FE Exam Prep, and Coding Basics (K–12).
For test prep, I cover SAT/ACT, AP Exams, IB, GED, GRE, and general College Readiness.
My specialty is Social-Emotional Learning — building self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation alongside academics — and it's woven into every session I teach.

Experience & Approach:
My background blends education, systems engineering, healthcare, and educational technology. I bring that systems-thinking perspective into every lesson — helping students see how ideas connect, recognize patterns, and grow into confident, independent problem-solvers. Rather than handing students formulas to memorize, I guide them with questions, visuals, games, puzzles, digital whiteboards, and multiple problem-solving strategies, so they learn not just what to do, but why it works.
I especially love working with gifted and neurodiverse learners, students who've lost some confidence along the way, and families who want to build a strong long-term foundation — not just prep for the next test. All sessions are fully virtual, so I'm able to work with families across Arizona and other ESA-participating states.
