About Shikha
My name is Shikha and I am a permanent Canadian resident. I have a PhD in English from Punjabi University, Patiala and the focus of my study was analyses and theorization of literary representations of women through a sociological lens. I have almost 8 years of experience in teaching English literature, grammar, and communication skills to Post-Secondary scholars (Bachelor degree in various streams like Arts, Science, Computer Applications, Business Administration, etc.) hailing from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Also, I have 4 years and 6 months experience of teaching English literature (Gender and Feminism, American Literature, Indian writing in English, British and European Fiction, Literary Criticism and Cultural Theory, etc.) to scholars pursuing Master of Arts Degree in English.
With IELTS score of 8.5 Bands: Listening-8.5, Reading-9, Writing-7.5, Speaking-8.5, I am a confident speaker with fluency in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. Owing to my strong written and oral communication skills in English, I have always been assigned the task of teaching "Spoken English and Communication Skills" courses at various academic institutes. I have taken on the roles of mentor, evaluator, invigilator, examiner, translator, counselor, editor, event host, etc. throughout my years of teaching in different academic institutions. I also have an avid interest in literary research. Moreover, I am a punctual and disciplined hard worker, well-versed in the use of technology, patient and willing to adjust according to the student's wavelength and learning capacity. I will go to any length to impart knowledge and thereby uplift the minds of my students.

I have extensive experience (8 years) teaching Post-Secondary scholars and individuals pursuing their Master's Degree in English. My main focus has been to teach students whose first language is not English. I have consistently worked to improve the aforementioned students' vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and oral and written communication skills.
I believe that a classroom is a haven where young minds are given free reign to blossom and thrive both physically and intellectually. I always devise and employ strategies to guarantee that my students are not restricted by the shackles of rote learning and are, in fact, able to comprehend their knowledge vis-a-vis their lived experience. I am never complacent about preparing the lectures that I have to deliver to my students. I am aware that teaching is a learning process facilitated by one’s students, contemporaries, parents, and community. It is a lifelong enterprise where one learns innovative approaches, unique techniques, and authentic philosophies. As a teacher, I hope to keep learning and evolving alongside my students.
