About Marjorie
I have taught thousands of students at all levels of English proficiency, from English language learners who need help with grammar and mechanics to Master's and PhD students finessing their thesis or dissertation. I've taught writing, literature, and intercultural communications as well as courses in peace education, diversity, and multicultural communication. I am knowledgeable about first year college-level writing course requirements, literary theory, and graduate-level writing modes.

I take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching, drawing upon students' lived experiences and cultural relevance as much as possible. In teaching writing I seek to facilitate students' ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world assignments such as short essays, projects, and research papers by assisting with invention and organization and providing resources and feedback for improving mechanics.

I have known Marjorie for over 15 years, first through teaching when she joined the English Department at the private university where we were teaching, and soon after as a good friend. Dr. Church is one of the most student-supportive, student-friendly I've ever known, giving time and help beyond the normal teacher student relationship. She has given her mobile number to students and accepted calls at 3 am then gone to the aid of a student.
