About Leila
I am a science communicator and educator passionate about understanding how the natural world works.
I got a first class degree in Earth Sciences from the University of Oxford, and followed that up with a PhD in Palaeontology and Astrobiology, also at Oxford. From there I worked at NASA’s Exobiology Institute, before becoming a teacher at an independent school in Sussex. I was delighted to be awarded Teacher of the Year at the Arrow awards.
I have spent the last decade as a producer for TV documentaries and factual shows on BBC, National Geographic, Netflix and Amazon Prime, as well as running and contributing to several science YouTube channels and podcasts like SciShow and Twenty Thousand Hertz.
Right now, I’m working on creating a new curriculum for digital intelligence in school, helping students to understand, navigate and thrive in a digital-first world.

Online hour-long lessons are tailored to each individual’s needs. We spend time reviewing knowledge, reinforcing weak areas, and practising exam responses and technique.
I specialise in lessons for KS3, GCSE, A Level and Oxbridge university entrance.
I teach with an online whiteboard, drawing on resources from exam papers and worksheets, and provide regular feedback on progress and weak areas.
My lessons are designed to do more than just get you through your exams. They will inspire you with confidence in yourself and the curiosity to dig deeper beyond the facts, setting you up for success in science and in life.
Since my degree and PhD at Oxford, I have over 20 years teaching and examining experience, in university, schools, and as a tutor and board examiner. I have spent the last decade making science documentaries for TV and digital platforms, making science understandable to everyone. I’m confident in finding a way for every learner to succeed.
