About Anca
About Me
Hi! I’m Anca, an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy at the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, I’ve dedicated my career to making the most complex medical subjects—Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy—accessible, logical, and practical.
My specialty is translating high-level science into clinical reality. Beyond teaching 3rd to 5th-year medical and pharmacy students, I lead advanced training for Clinical Pharmacy residents. This allows me to offer insights that go far beyond standard textbooks—focusing on therapeutic drug monitoring, complex drug interactions, and the practical nuances of modern therapy.
I believe education should keep pace with technology. As a medical content creator (podcasts and eLearning), I bring that same dynamic energy to our sessions. Whether you are a student or a professional aiming for USMLE, NAPLEX, or MIR, we can work together in English or Spanish
My mission is to help you move past "blind" memorization. I want to build your confidence so that when you see a complex clinical case or a difficult exam question, you don’t just remember a drug name—you understand the mechanism, the "why," and the clinical outcome.
I am happy to offer a first meeting to discuss your goals and create a personalized study plan!

Teaching approach & methodology
Pharmacology shouldn’t be about rote memorization; it’s about understanding the "why" behind the drug. My method bridges the gap between complex molecular dynamics and the patient’s bedside.
To make our sessions dynamic and effective, I use:
- Visual mapping: Using Excalidraw, we live-draw pathways and drug-receptor interactions, turning abstract concepts into clear diagrams.
- Active recall: I guide you in using Anki for long-term retention of high-yield drug classes.
- Interactive quizzing: e.g. using Mentimeter for real-time knowledge checks.
- Case-based learning to ensure that every mechanism we discuss has a clear clinical application.
Typical lesson plan (60-90 mins):
- foundational review (10 min): A quick "warm-up" quiz on previous concepts to ensure retention.
- the mechanism (25 min): Deep dive into the pharmacodynamics/kinetics of the day’s drug class using interactive whiteboards.
- clinical integration (20 min): Analyzing real-world clinical cases—focusing on indications, contraindications, and critical drug interactions.
- Board-Style Practice (15 min): Solving and deconstructing USMLE/NAPLEX-style questions to master the logic behind clinical vignettes.
- Q&A & Summary (5 min): Clarifying remaining doubts and setting the "active recall" goals for the week.
Bonus Materials
After each session, I provide personalized summary sheets and clinical correlation handouts (PDF) to help you review the key concepts efficiently.
Who this is for
- Medical & pharmacy Students: Mastering systemic pharmacology and preparing for university exams.
- Residents (Clinical Pharmacy & Internal Medicine): Advanced therapy management and hospital protocols.
- Board candidates: High-yield prep for USMLE Step 1, NAPLEX.

Professor Anca Zanfirescu teaches in a straightforward and easy to understand manner, approaching and explaining with passion key concepts of drug science, evidence based medicine and the relevance of pharmacological principles in patient care that have translated for me into enduring, lasting, helpful and high quality knowledge. Every lesson, debated physiological and medicine related subject represents a fascinating encounter and an ongoing enrichment for me and is highly anticipated because not only the learning materials she provides are structured and refined, underlining the logical flow of a topic, but Ms. Zanfirescu also brings in her teaching process, explanations and presentations the extraordinary and unique energy, responsibility, confidence and expertise of a professional and dedicated teacher that help connect and comprehend fast the complex notions of pharmacology to the applicability and usefulness in day to day practice. A formidable teacher!
Anca is an excellent pharmacology teacher — clear, supportive, and truly passionate about teaching. Her classes are engaging and easy to follow. Highly recommended!
CiprianI am very happy to recommend Anca as a teacher on Superprof. She was my Pharmacology professor, and one of the qualities I appreciated the most was her ability to explain even complex concepts in a very clear and accessible way, so that everyone could understand them. She is extremely patient, supportive, and always willing to go over difficult notions as many times as needed.
I also had the opportunity to work with her during my PhD, where she guided me throughout the entire four-year journey. During this time, she offered me constant support, helped me better understand many concepts I found difficult at first, and always encouraged me to keep improving. Her explanations were always clear, logical, and adapted to my level of understanding.
Anca is not only a knowledgeable professional, but also a dedicated mentor who truly cares about her students and their progress. I strongly recommend her to anyone looking for a teacher who is competent, patient, and able to make learning both effective and enjoyable.View more recommendations
