About Ian
I left my full-time teaching role several years ago to switch from a maths/science teaching role and follow up a passion for computing and to take a Masters degree.
Since then I have run my own business developing web applications and software, alongside my Chief Examiner role, but maintained a love of teaching by helping a small number of people with their maths and science courses and, occasionally, with some small off-site groups based in the workplace, where I was nominated for a national teaching award by Sembcorp for my work with 4 of their staff.
In all my roles I have never found anything more satisfying than seeing a learner achieve, whether that is gaining the grade they need to get to their first choice university, achieving the qualification that helps them progress their career or simply developing a belief in their own abilities and growing as a person.

Whilst concentrating on what is required for the syllabus, my approach is very student-focussed and tailored to meet the learning style and needs of the individual - the best approach for one student is not the best for another.
Lessons can be for 1 - 2 hours and can take place at the learner's home, another venue or online (though face-to-face is preferred).
I have a P.G.C.E. and 15 years' experience teaching in both Further Education and Higher Education in Teesside. I also have 15 years experience as a Chief Examiner for NCC Education writing and marking examinations and assignments for international degree-level computing courses.
My qualifications include a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics from the University of Nottingham and a M.Sc. in Computing from the University of Teesside where I was awarded the British Computer Society award for best postgraduate student and best postgraduate thesis.
My lessons are aimed at A-level and GCSE students of al ages but I have also worked with postgraduate students who needed some help in the mathematics elements of their course.
