About Nicola
I am a dedicated, reflective, enthusiastic and empathetic educator who has acquired extensive experience across the education sector; in primary and secondary schools, further and higher education, adult learning and professional development. This includes a range of roles encompassing course design and delivery, programme development and project management, administration and governance and personal, social and academic support.
Most importantly, I am a teacher. Through all the work I have done in the education sector, I always come back to this as it is the thing I love most of all.

My overall approach is to provide you with the confidence, skills, tools and knowledge to be able to understand and use language in real world situations.
Your real world situation may be different to others. You may be new to the UK and need to use English to use the NHS or to help your child at school. You may be English and want to learn a little German as you have some relatives in Austria. You could be a healthcare worker needing some support to study for the OET or a university student thinking of studying for a postgraduate degree in Germany and need help to pass a language competency test such as TestDAF.
I tailor my lessons to your circumstances and your needs. I work to ensure that you feel relaxed and safe to make mistakes and ask questions in our lessons, that we have fun and that we make excellent progress as quickly as is possible for you.
Every learner has areas that they find challenging. We will focus on these areas in a way that means you will use your strengths to help you and you will grow in confidence and ability in all areas of language learning.
We will develop your ability to deal with unfamiliar language in different contexts, whether that be at a local market, in a job interview or in an examination.
I have a PGCE in modern foreign languages, am fluent in German and a native speaker of English from the UK. I have over 20 years of experience teaching students of all ages, from 5 years old to 75 years young! I have taught individuals, small groups of 3 - 5 students and classes of over 30 students. I have been teaching ESOL for a county council in England for the past two years and have also tutored students to pass IELTS and TestDAF. I have worked extensively with learners with various special educational needs and disabilities and will adjust my teaching methods and resources to meet your requirements.
I have an enhanced DBS check registered with the update service.
Whatever your age, whatever reason you want to learn, I will use my wealth of knowledge and experience to make my lessons work for you.
