About Alex
I studied cello at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with a first in performance. I then spent two years training in Cornwall, gaining a PGCE in Music Teaching through the University of Birmingham, during which I taught mainly in schools and privately taught older adults. I have many years of experience both teaching and performing in orchestras and chamber groups, and I'm currently studying for a master's in Music Therapy at the Royal Northern College of Music.

I teach with a dual focus on technique and theory from the very beginning. My main approach is the Suzuki style, with an emphasis on working towards grades, but I'm always happy to be flexible and shape lessons around what each student wants to achieve. I firmly believe lessons should be both effective and enjoyable, pupils who enjoy playing get the most out of their instrument and keep practising. I mainly teach classical music, but I'm happy to branch out if a student would like to.
I also have some experience in teaching upright bass / bass guitar although I'm not as experienced here.
