About Ingrid
Hello, I'm Ingrid!
I’m a native Afrikaans speaker and an experienced professional with more than 20 years of experience in management, communication, training and people development. For many years, I trained and supported adults in the workplace, helping them build skills, communicate effectively and grow in confidence. Today, I bring that same experience and approach to personalised Afrikaans tutoring.
My lessons are structured, supportive and tailored to the individual learner. I work with school learners who need help with Afrikaans, exam preparation, grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, as well as adults who want to improve their conversational Afrikaans or communicate more confidently in everyday and professional situations.
I believe learning a language should be more than memorising rules. My goal is to help learners understand why the language works the way it does, and then give them the confidence to use it. I use clear explanations, practical examples, guided conversation and activities designed around each learner's needs.
For school learners, I focus on building both understanding and exam confidence. For adults, lessons can be adapted to their goals — from everyday conversation and grammar to more thoughtful discussions and practical Afrikaans for real-life situations.
My teaching style is calm, encouraging and structured. I want my students to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and trying again, because that is where real learning happens.
I’m also a creative person who enjoys drawing and painting, and I bring that creativity into my lesson design where it adds value. But most importantly, I want every lesson to have a purpose: to help the learner understand more, communicate better and feel more confident than they did before the lesson.
If you’re looking for personalized Afrikaans lessons with a patient, experienced tutor who genuinely cares about your progress, I’d love to help.

Afrikaans that makes sense — not just Afrikaans to memorise!
My lessons are personalised, structured and designed around the learner’s specific goals. I believe that understanding the why behind Afrikaans makes it much easier to remember and use the language confidently.
For school learners, lessons can focus on grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence structure, writing and exam preparation. I break difficult concepts into manageable steps and use practical examples and guided exercises to help learners apply what they have learned.
For adult learners, lessons can be tailored to conversational Afrikaans, grammar, vocabulary, workplace communication or simply becoming more comfortable using the language in real-life situations. I also enjoy using thought-provoking topics and discussions to help adults develop Afrikaans while thinking, expressing opinions and exploring the language in a meaningful way.
My teaching style is calm, supportive and encouraging, but I also believe in gently challenging learners to think for themselves. Lessons are not simply about getting the correct answer — they are about understanding how to get there.
Every lesson has a purpose, and every learner gets an approach suited to their level, goals and learning style.
My aim is simple: to help you understand Afrikaans, use it with confidence, and eventually find that it comes more naturally.

Perfect! Ingrid was amazing throughout
- I really enjoyed the class with Domenic, he is an intelligent young man with a very bright mind. We had a very interesting lesson with a boxing theme and I really enjoyed the conversation with him and to see the passion he felt for the subject. I look forward to more good conversations with him.Ingrid's response :
Perfect! My lessons with Ingrid have been an absolute pleasure from the very beginning. She has a wonderful ability to make you feel completely at ease, which creates an environment where learning feels natural rather than intimidating.
What impressed me most is how quickly she understood exactly what I wanted to achieve. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, she took the time to understand my learning style and tailored our lessons accordingly. She is patient, engaging, incredibly knowledgeable, and always finds creative ways to explain Afrikaans that go beyond memorising vocabulary. Her lessons weave together language, culture, history, and real-life context, making every session genuinely interesting.
I also feel we’ve been an excellent match. Our conversations flow naturally, and our similar level of maturity makes the lessons enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. She encourages curiosity, welcomes questions, and has a remarkable ability to think outside the box when presenting the language. Each lesson leaves me more motivated than the last, and I’ve found myself looking forward to learning Afrikaans in a way I never expected.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ingrid to anyone wanting to learn Afrikaans, whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to deepen your understanding of the language and its cultural context. She’s an exceptional teacher, a genuinely kind person, and someone who makes the learning journey both rewarding and enjoyable. I couldn’t have asked for a better tutor.- My trial lesson with Croydon was a wonderful experience. From the outset, he was very clear about his learning goals. Rather than focusing on large amounts of vocabulary, he is deeply interested in the origins of Afrikaans, its cultural significance, sentence structure, and the "why" behind the language. He also expressed an interest in incorporating Business Afrikaans and elements of South African social studies into his lessons.Ingrid's response :
I found Croydon to be an absolute delight to teach. He is highly intelligent, curious, and thoughtful in his approach to learning. Our trial lesson was engaging and positive, and I felt immediately aligned with his learning needs and objectives.
Together, we agreed to embark on a series of lessons titled South Africa through Afrikaans, which will explore the language within its broader cultural, historical, and social context. I am genuinely excited about this journey. I believe these lessons will challenge me as a teacher in the very best way, and I look forward to creating meaningful and enriching learning experiences with Croydon.
Perfect! Her welcoming attitude is the best. She makes one feel at ease to share their challenges and and has assured my son that he will see some improvements in his school marks.
- I recently had the pleasure of meeting Isaac during a complimentary trial Afrikaans lesson after his mom contacted me for additional support with the language.Ingrid's response :
I thoroughly enjoyed our lesson together and found Isaac to be a respectful young man with a positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn. He participated well and showed enthusiasm throughout the session, which made the lesson both enjoyable and rewarding.
I believe Isaac has great potential, and I am looking forward to guiding and supporting him on his Afrikaans journey. I am excited to help him build his confidence and develop a strong foundation in the language.
Perfect! Ingrid has been awesome so far . My son loves her teaching styles and I highly recommend her . She is very efficient and accommodating . I'm very confident she will be instrumental in helping my son achieve academic excellence
- Neville contacted me to assist his son with Afrikaans tutoring. He was clear in his communication and also what his requirements were. I set up a meet and greet with his son and also did a free trial lesson. We have proceeded to set up tutoring times. Communication is clear. It was a pleasure dealing with NevilleIngrid's response :
