About Grace
I am passionate, professional, and friendly. My love for teaching began years ago during my overseas study in Italy. I used to offer mates rates when teaching (which was usually a scoop or two of gelato) to friends who wanted to advance their English skills. Since then, teaching has played an important role in my academic life and career.
My academic background is in International Relations, specialising in research methods, social policy writing and environmentalism. I am an A grade university graduate. I’ve tutored fellow university students (paid privately) and via the university’s PASS programme.
Since graduating, I have worked for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) in the secondary examinations team. I have an in-depth understanding of school systems and achievement criteria. Currently, I teach and prepare lesson plans for the Wonder’s Language School. My lessons are one to one and are offered to students ranging between the ages of 5 to 25 years old.
While the majority of my studies were in New Zealand, I have studied in Sicily, Italy, thus I have first-hand experience of being a foreign student who is not fluent in the dominant language. Please reach out to me if you are in a similar position! (My Italian has since improved, I’ve also studied French and am currently practising Shona).
My hobbies outside of teaching include Tae Kwon Do (a martial art), dancing, travelling, and I’m a foodie (I even have a foodie dedicated insta page)!

My teaching methodology is adaptable to student preference. I want to be responsive to how YOU learn best. In the first session I aim to clarify preferred learning styles, what areas in particular of the subject matter need attention, and details you feel are important for me to know.
Moving forward, the skeleton of my lesson plan is a 5-to-10-minute introductory exercise, often revision of the week before and/or an interactive exercise focussed on an area you’ve identified needs improvement. The introductory exercise allows us to ease into the learning and fire up our brains. Following the introductory exercise is review time. We will review a textbook chapter, past work you’ve done or sources I have found, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and potential edits. Using the material we’ve reviewed; I can identify themes for us to discuss or centre further exercises around. Note, the skeleton of my lesson plan is a skeleton, we can make changes and flesh out the lesson plan as suits you best.
