About Shubh
Hi, I am fourth year medic at Oxford having tutored more than 20 clients through the academic year. Having recently completed my A-levels, I understand the strategy, diligence and state of mind needed to make sure you do not fall into the traps so many others do, especially with the new exams which favor those who think in a unique, critical way.
My cohort was the first to do the new GCSE math exams and one of the first to do the new A-level exams. Expressed by the outrage of students online and on the news and the sharp decrease in grade boundaries those years, it was clear that the difficulty step up from the old specification was significant. Those who did well were those who were pioneers - no teacher knew how best to prepare and what to expect and there were no previous year students to gain advice from. Having achieved a 9 in GCSE math (overall 8A*s and 2As) and A* in A-level math (15% above the overall mark needed for A* and A*A*A overall), the advice and strategies I share with you would allow you to achieve the best grades from square 1. With me comes experience of these new exams from just two years ago and specific, first-hand knowledge on how to tackle the new specifications across biology, math and chemistry.
I have been able to teach many different students; I taught voluntarily at a secondary school to boost the grades of under-performing GCSE students. During my time at GCSE and A-level, I developed my ability to teach while I taught friends. I understand the confusion which can be caused by complex subjects and understand the value of articulation and walking with my students' existing knowledge to reveal something new. Students and employers regard myself as having a human approach to tutoring, achieved by having interpersonal skills as good communication and listening skills. I also have been said to be diligent and don't give up when a task is at hand. Having been part of events to expose children to science, I bring an enthusiastic and fun perspective to your work!
Tutoring to me is an activity done to care for another. I see my role as a tutor as an opportunity to bring the best out of my student and take pride in something I have seen grown.

I truly believe that, whatever your current level of work, the highest grades are always accessible through adopting a change to three things: determination, insight and technique.
The first must be derived from the student themselves and in our first session I aim to surface key motivators and confidence to carry them through their learning. Insight and technique are things I can directly provide. It is important that you have a level of intuition to your learning so that it is not a chore, but rather it can be fun! To achieve this, we must build from what insights you already possess and push these boundaries to think critically and creatively. We achieve this through integrating some quite difficult questions from the outset and work through them together so that you are equipped with a feel of how to tackle the unknown. Lastly, as exams are timed, we will tackle exam technique later in our sessions.
