About Rhys
My name is Rhys Juergensen (BA , MA) and I am offering my services as a tutor for academic writing and journalism.
In school, I was able to maintain a 4.13 GPA because of an attention to detail, excellent time management, and most importantly, critical thinking. Knowing the value of these skills, I push students and aspiring writers to maximize their potential: I will bring your theses/through-lines to deeper levels of analysis; I will help develop strong work habits; and I will teach you to proofread your work with a professor's eye.
Working as a Teacher's Assistant for an undergraduate English course, I successfully brought a cohort of 50+ first-years to the point where they not only met, but exceeded, the prof's expectations. As a freelancer, I am constantly exchanging notes and revisions with editors, always working to get my prose to it's most polished, succinct form. As I learn, so too do my students.

My students are typically in the first two years of their undergraduate degree (although I offer one-on-one tutelage to grad students working on Master's theses). As such, I run my classes in the same way as an undergraduate seminar, or tutorial: I set up a 1-hour Google Meet or Zoom session, wherein I provide an overview of our topic/module, an examination of texts that relate to/exemplify the topic, and a writing exercise. During my classes, students will share their work and get critiqued by their peers - this is an invaluable tool in developing one's own writing and editing practices.
