About Tim
I'm an enthusiastic, personable and dedicated tutor who teaches English, History and Art between Key Stage 3 and A Level. I’ve been working with young people for the past two years. I'm happy to teach online or face to face.
I'm confident working with young people towards a variety of educational outcomes. I work with students practicing for entrance exams, such as the 11+ or 13+. I help them develop their skills and understanding so they can score highly in their GCSEs or A Levels. I teach them specific skills like essay writing, analysis of texts, or interview technique. And, most importantly, I help them develop their interest and engagement with their subject, so their learning can continue long term.
I also have a background as a young person’s mentor, having worked with ReachOut throughout 2019. In this role, I worked with a young person one to one to help him overcome challenges with his academic performance and behaviour. I have worked as a youth filmmaking workshop facilitator for production company Chocolate Films and youth training organisation Spiral, teaching animation and filmmaking to groups of young people in a variety of settings, including schools, youth groups and at public events.
I'm DBS approved and regularly undertake Continuing Professional Development training to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.

I think the best tutoring approach is one that is highly adaptable and collaborative. I adjust the way I teach according to each student's ability and learning style, and I try to demonstrate to my students that I think of teaching something we're doing together, not just an activity they have to carry out. I always take an interest in their ideas and encourage them to think critically around the subject - not just to memorise and reproduce information - and I react with curiosity if they're finding something difficult. I find a large part of the success of teaching depends on the working relationship between the teacher and student - if you can develop a good one together, then so much of what follows is easier and more organic.
