About Eszter Anna

I have graduated from the University of Szeged in 2009. I have 15 years of teaching experience in all age groups and all levels. I was teaching in various secondary schools where my students could take their final exams and language exams in Spanish successfully. Some of my students could successfully find a job in Latin America and also could use the language for business operations in Spain. Now I am living in London for the past four years and I am happy to teach students both who just want to start learning Spanish and also who would like to improve their knowledge.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

1.) I speak Spanish fluently not because of my origins, as I am from Hungary, but because I have always been interested in languages, and when I first met Spanish language in secondary school, my teacher was really inspiring to me. She was talking about her adventures in Santiago de Compostela and I was really attracted to her story and her character. After that I was studying Spanish at The University of Szeged in Hungary and obtained my Masters Degree. Later I moved to London in 2017 and I got my Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in Spanish Language in 2020.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

2.) As a ballroom dancer, I would mention here a fictional dancing couple or rather a mystic shadow of them dancing the famous Spanish Dance, "Paso Doble'', which is the dance of bullfighting by origin. I can imagine their authentic dress and the "torero's" huge, red and black cape as the dancers are moving around each other dramatically and passionately. This is the picture that I can imagine as the emblematic representative of Spanish culture. 💃
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

3.) Usually I don't like to generalize but I like Spanish people and their usual approach to life. Their fiery character and their usual positivity merging together is what I find mainly attractive. A phrase that I really like from them is "sea como sea" which means "either way" or "let it be" . Also I am constantly impressed by the structure and the logic of Spanish grammar where you can discover hidden their way of living.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

4.) It matters to me because in a way I feel that this is already the part of my character, the part of me. Without it, I would feel myself less somehow. As they often say, to speak another language enriches your personality.
  • 5.) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

5.) I think this language is quite smooth to learn, however some irregular conjugation of verbs can cause some difficulties. Especially, there is a very specific mode of verb that they often use, it is called "subjuntivo". But you don't have to worry about it too much. It has its own logic and if you are open enough, you can easily embrace it.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

6.) There was a story at the University that I am not too proud of but it helped me a lot in my language learning.
In the first semester we had to read lots and lots of books in Spanish to prepare for the exams and I found it very difficult to finish them all on time. The day before the exam I still had many books unfinished so I was in panic.
Not surprisingly, I didn't have luck with the exams, so I failed. I felt horrible. I was about to cry. I just wanted to go home and give up my whole career.
Then suddenly one of my peers approached me with a smile. I told her what happened with tears in my eyes and I asked if she could help. She invited me to a group of students where they decided who reads which of these novels and then came together to share the essence of each book in detail, while all the others took notes. It was amazing. They taught each other and learnt from each other. I joined the group happily so I was saved. The very next week I went to my exams with confidence and passed both of them.
I realized that even if a task is completely impossible, together there is always a solution. And I also learnt to never feel ashamed to ask for help from others.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

7.) There was an opportunity during my high school years which allowed me to travel with the school group to Spain, Lloret del Mar, for two weeks. It is a beautiful place, it was like a dream come true and this trip inspired me a lot in my language learning. I could meet native speakers and take a closer look at the culture of the country. It was an amazing experience.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

8.) In my opinion, sharing knowledge is a capacity which comes naturally from inside, from your heart. This is a kind of intention of helping others. This is also my approach in language. I always adapt to my students' needs and see through very quickly what is the best and shortest way to help them to reach their language goals. I also believe that it is very important to enjoy the learning process because this is the most successful and enjoyable way. 😊 It is not something that can be forced. You must find the way to let it flow and then miracles can happen...
