About Sarah

Born in Belgium, I am a native French speaker.
I completed my elementary and secondary courses in French Litterature and Languages.
I am also a preschool teacher with a degree in education. Additionally, I passed the TEF test, have ample tutoring experience with children, and have chosen to recently branch out my services for adults.

About the lesson

* I believe learning a language should be fun :
- My teaching practices are based on the idea that the brain learns naturally through exposure. Thus, during lessons, I communicate primarily in French, and teach using games, situational role play, and other hands on practices (I do not assign a lot of homework or long assignments except if it's part of what you expect from our lessons ).

- I have a student-centered teaching style and will adapt my lessons to your particular level, needs, and interests!

- My lessons are conversation-based and formulated for beginners using my extensive knowledge in teaching

* My lesson model :
- Conversation, and practicing speech and articulation using games, situational roleplay, etc.
- Working on pronunciation
- Grammar exercises
- Reading and listening comprehension
- Practicing written French (and correcting your work together)
- Flashcards and vocabulary
- etc...

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I learnt to read at a very young age because I was fascinated by words and their meaning. Later, my passion for the power of words grew and developed into love of the art forms literature and poetry. When I began to teach young children, my interest in sharing my love of language only became stronger, and I realized I wanted to teach adults as well.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
I believe that languages are bridges between people and their cultures and lives, but also their perception of the world. Each language has it's own individuality and it's always interesting to learn about each one's uniqueness. That's why I love to travel (Asia, Europe...) and I'm currently learning japanese.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"? *
I love the idea of giving a person a new passage way and guiding them through the learning process of a new language. My goal is to make my students feel confident, happy and enthusiastic enough to schedule their next session with me. I think I'm a Superprof because my tutoring style is a good mix between being knowledgeable, applying good pedagogy, and a hint of fun.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
During my secondary education, I had the most amazing French teacher; he was truly reminiscent of John Keating from Dead Poets Society. He spent more than 40 years inspiring teens to develop a love of French language and literature and I feel very grateful that I got to know him
What are your keys to success?
Believe in yourself, enjoy what you do, be gentle with yourself, and never give up !
