About Melissa
Hi! My name is Melissa.
I work virtually with students of all ages on a wide variety of writing.
I have a BA in English from the University of New Hampshire, where I also worked as a Writing Assistant. As a Writing Assistant at UNH, I provided one-on-one writing tutoring to college students, who I helped with brainstorming thesis statements, re-organizing paragraphs, adding length without adding “fluff”, making sentences more clear and concise, improving grammar, and more. I've also worked at two local companies in marketing roles where my main task was writing, at Southern New Hampshire University as a Finance Counselor and Transcript Evaluator, and at a local elementary school as an Instructional Assistant in a kindergarten classroom.
I've written and/or edited literary analysis papers, rhetorical and dialectic essays, fiction, poetry, journalistic articles, press releases, blog articles, lab reports, cover letters, resumes, and more. I feel comfortable adapting to a wide variety of individuals and types of writing efficiently, and balancing an approach that allows the student to be in the driver’s seat of their learning, with a more directive approach when preferred. I am friendly, empathetic, and patient, and I foster both improvement and empowerment.

I work from home and can help you (if you're the student) or your child with writing by being sent the writing piece and then making suggestions and potential corrections in a Word doc via the Track Changes feature, which I can send back to you to accept or reject as you see fit, and/or having a conversation with you (if you're the student) or your child via video call. If we have a conversation via video call, I will ask you questions to determine your particular goals/concerns and what you've tried so far, or thought about trying, regarding the writing piece in question, and it will be a much more interactive process with back and forth, whereas if you'd like me to review the piece without a video call conversation, I'll use what I'm sent in your initial inquiry to review the piece and provide feedback with track changes and then send it back to you when I'm done.
Please include the rubric and any other instructions provided by your instructor in your inquiry if you'd like my help with a class assignment.
