About James
I am a neuroscience graduate and a former mental health nurse with over 20 years of clinical experience, along with a postgraduate certificate in vocational rehabilitation. My work has focused on helping people develop practical strategies to overcome barriers to learning, work and daily functioning.
In tutoring sessions I take a personalised approach, starting by understanding how you learn best so we can work with your individual learning style and cognitive strengths.
I particularly enjoy supporting university and health-science students studying neuroscience, nursing and related subjects. My background also allows me to work well with neurodivergent students or those managing health challenges while studying, helping to make complex material clearer and more manageable.
If you sometimes find studying overwhelming, difficult to organise, or hard to focus on, we can work together to develop strategies that make learning feel clearer and more achievable.

My approach to tutoring is personalised and collaborative. I begin by understanding how you learn best so we can work with your individual learning style and cognitive strengths.
Sessions typically last 45–60 minutes and focus on building clear understanding of complex concepts, improving academic structure, and developing confidence with assignments and exams.
With a background in neuroscience and 20 years' experience as a former mental health nurse, I support university and health-science students studying neuroscience, nursing and related subjects. I also work well with neurodivergent students, helping develop practical study strategies and ways of approaching challenging material.
Students often come to me when a topic feels confusing, an assignment needs structuring, or an exam is approaching and they need focused support to make things clearer and more manageable.
