About Catia
I'm Portuguese and have been living in Edinburgh for over 13 years. I first started teaching Portuguese for fun, exchanging languages with friends and anyone who wanted to learn Portuguese, either out of interest or because they were going on holidays. Other than Portuguese and English, I speak French and Spanish. I'm currently studying German and my next language will be Arabic. Eventually I realised how much I enjoy helping people in this way and meeting like minded people. I have successfully taught Portuguese to six different people in the past four years - one of whom moved to Portugal to live for three years (he was one of my first students and is still there by the way, after four years and to this date we speak Portuguese whenever we chat!!!) - this does not include the friends and languages exchange ever since I moved to this country. The rate of charge reflects the fact that I don't have formal qualifications other than a genuine interest but you will have the chance to see and question for yourself my reasons for offering my services here as well as my expertise.

My teaching method is a student-centred approach where I coach and facilitate your learning and your overall comprehension of Portuguese. Although I use a lesson plan to keep track of your progress and evaluate myself, the structure of this course is devised around your goal - if you are going to spend 3 months in Portugal the structure and the level of Portuguese required will be different than if you were moving there or, like myself, wanted to learn a new language. I provide free materials also. My main goal is to provide perfect knowledge of oral and/or written Portuguese. Your desire to learn is the main catalyst of this journey you are about to embark on - my job is to encourage your learning.
