About Rafa
I'm an engineer professionally but love Spanish language and culture. I've lived in El Salvador and go back as often as I can. I deeply enjoy learning and making connections with things I already know and do the same for my students. I want to open a school one day and this will certainly be part of my curriculum. A lot of my lessons revolve around making connections to things the student already knows, typically from English. This really helps reinforce and remember the lesson and meanings. I make sure that we have a baseline of reading and writing down first. Then we have to make sure you're conversational. That means all the right pronunciations and understanding the purpose of a conversation without needing to understand every word. And then finally we work on the most advanced levels which typically has to do with expanding vocabulary and catching more and exact meanings in conversation. Just like in English, the sayings are non-trivial and require experience in a Spanish-speaking country or with someone who has lived in one like me.
