About Kseniia
Hi! I’m Kseniia, a native Russian speaker currently based in the Netherlands. I grew up speaking Russian, and one of the things I enjoy most about teaching is showing students how the language is actually used in natural conversation, not just how it appears in a grammar book. Russian can look intimidating at first. There is a new alphabet, cases change word endings, and verbs sometimes seem to follow their own logic. I like taking those complicated-looking rules and making them clear, structured and much less scary. At the same time, I don’t believe you should spend months studying grammar before you start speaking. From the beginning, we use new vocabulary and structures in real sentences, questions and conversations. I work with students at different levels, from complete beginners learning their first Russian words to more experienced learners who want to sound more natural, expand their vocabulary and feel more confident speaking. My teaching style is structured but flexible. Lessons are built around your level, interests and reason for learning Russian, whether that is travel, relationships or family, work, Russian culture, books and films, or simply because you love the language.

Your lessons will be personalised around what you actually want to achieve with Russian. We can focus on speaking, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading or listening, or combine these depending on what you need most. For complete beginners, I provide a clear path through the alphabet, pronunciation, essential vocabulary and grammar. Rather than learning isolated lists of words, you will start building useful sentences and having simple conversations from the beginning. If you already know some Russian, we can work on cases, verb forms, more complex grammar, natural sentence structure and vocabulary development. We can also use more interesting discussion topics so that conversation practice goes beyond the usual textbook questions. I explain grammar clearly and step by step, with plenty of examples, while making sure you actually use what you learn. New vocabulary and grammar are incorporated into conversation and practical exercises so they become active rather than something you only recognise on paper. When useful, I can prepare materials before lessons with new vocabulary or grammar so you can look through the topic in advance. After lessons, I can also give feedback on mistakes, useful expressions and areas to practise. My goal is for lessons to feel structured and productive without becoming rigid or boring. I want you to understand how Russian works, but more importantly, to reach the point where you can stop overthinking every sentence and simply start speaking.
I also offer structured preparation for students studying Russian for A-level, the Irish Leaving Certificate and other school or language examinations. We can use your syllabus and exam requirements to create a clear preparation plan and focus on the areas where you can still gain marks. Depending on your exam, we can work on speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and listening. For oral exams, we can practise answering questions without long pauses, developing your answers, improving pronunciation and speaking more naturally. For written components, we can focus on grammatical accuracy, sentence structure, vocabulary and building stronger extended answers. We can also work directly with past papers and exam-style tasks, so that you improve your Russian while becoming familiar with the format and expectations of the exam. If you lose marks on a task, we look at why and how you can approach a similar question more effectively next time. My aim is not only to improve your Russian, but to help you show what you know confidently and effectively in the exam.
