About Monica
Hi, I’m Monica, a native Mandarin speaker and currently a Master’s student at UCL in London. I was born in China, did much of my growing up in Japan, and attended an American school, so I understand different cultural and language-learning backgrounds.
I have experience teaching English to students and adults, and my teaching style is patient, clear and supportive. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, pace and goals.

My lessons are practical, friendly and adapted to each student’s goals. A typical lesson is 50 minutes and includes pronunciation, tones, useful vocabulary, simple grammar and speaking practice. I focus on helping students use Mandarin naturally in real-life situations.
I teach beginners and conversation learners of all ages. I can explain in English or Japanese when needed. I also offer special lessons on Chinese/East Asian art, drawing on my academic background in art history.
