I've been studying Japanese with Satomi since the beginning of 2026 and it's been a really enjoyable and rewarding experience. Satomi is easy to talk to, consistently well-prepared and punctual, and very adept at breaking concepts down and explaining them to make them as clear as possible, sometimes using tools such as mnemonics and cue cards. I think Satomi strikes a perfect balance between maintaining and consolidating what you have already learned and challenging you to think on the spot and advance a little further out of your comfort zone with each session. I personally love her style of teaching and I believe I have been making steady progress. If you have any interest in reading, writing and/or speaking Japanese, I would highly recommend Satomi to support you in learning a new language.

I have been having lessons with Satomi for a year and half now, and my Japanese skills have improved immensely during this time.

Satomi tailors her lessons to whatever aspect of learning Japanese that you want. In my lessons, I have focused particularly on speaking, and from initially struggling to form sentences, I am now much more confident in my ability and able to have conversations in Japanese.

Every part of the lessons can be customised, including what type of homework you want and the textbooks you want to use. Alongside this, Satomi also uses a variety of useful visual aids to support your learning.

Satomi is very knowledgeable about all aspects of Japanese and is particularly good at explaining the nuances between similar expressions, grammar points, and words. She can create examples on the fly to illustrate these differences, which help reinforce my understanding.

She is patient, knowledgeable, and a joy to talk to, and I always look forward to my lessons. I highly recommend her!

Satomi sensei is a fantastic teacher. She has helped me tremendously with improving my Japanese - having the confidence to listen, speak, write and fully understand it. I really enjoy our lessons and how she combines different topics and ways of learning to fit my needs. Having never had formal lessons before, only using phone and desktop app/website subscriptions, Satomi sensei is helping me to combine all that I have learned through self-study and interest, and construct it in the correct way. Satomi is an excellent tutor and I cannot recommend her enough. She teaches using various methods, resources and visual aids which I have found to be incredibly helpful along my journey.
