About Harriet
Hello, my name is Harriet and I live in Brighton and Hove on the coast. I lived in London for many years and loved it but now really enjoy being close to the sea.
I love reading, watching films, drama and live music. I really enjoy long walks and travel, when possible. I have spent a lot of time in Portugal and am currently learning Portuguese, which is giving me a real insight into the challenges and joys of learning a second language. I also love food, eating out, drinking good coffee and have become more interested in cooking recently. I also love talking to people and finding out about what they love to do!
Professionally, I am very interested in people, education and how people learn. I have over 20 years experience in education with a specialism in teaching people who need a little more support when learning.

I am a qualified English as a Second Language teacher with 20 years experience in education as a teacher and manager. I have taught small groups a range of subjects, including Literacy, and also ran 1:1 study support sessions. I focus particularly on the individual, what they want to learn and how they learn best. This allows me to make the lessons fun and interesting for people. I am able to teach both specific skills and general conversation on a wide range of topics in a variety of contexts.
I have a Level 5 TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate, a PGCE teaching qualification and Masters degrees in Psychology and Creative Writing. This, as well as 8 years experience as a senior manager, means I am familiar with a wide range of English, including vocabulary and grammar for academic and business purposes.
I focus particularly on the individual, what they want to learn and how they learn best. This allows me to make the lessons fun and interesting for people. I am able to teach both specific skills and general conversation on a wide range of topics in a variety of contexts.
I am happy to teach from beginner to advanced level as well as people wanting to learn for a specific purpose, for example for study or for work. Lessons can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours long and will take place on Zoom or Skype. I am happy to teach all ages from teenagers to adults.
