My Tutoring Approach & Methodology
My teaching philosophy is built on the belief that every child can master a second language if it is taught the way they learn best.
What makes me unique is the combination of being a native Afrikaans speaker and having 12 years of professional experience in Special Needs Education. I don’t just teach vocabulary; I identify and work on bypassing the learning barriers—such as dyslexia, ADHD, or auditory processing challenges—that often make a second language feel like an impossible mountain to climb. Please take note: I cannot diagnose the above barriers medically, but I can adapt my lesson to teaching someone who has been diagnosed.
Proficiency & Language of Instruction
I am fully bilingual and proficient in both Afrikaans and English.
I teach Afrikaans as the primary subject.
I use English as a "bridge" language for explanations, ensuring that students who are more comfortable in English never feel lost or frustrated during the lesson.
What to Expect from a Typical Lesson
I believe in a "Low Stress, High Engagement" environment. A standard 45–60 minute session usually includes:
The Check-In (5 mins): A brief conversational "warm-up" in Afrikaans to build confidence.
The "Target" Topic (20 mins): Focusing on a specific area (e.g., Meervoude, Verlede Tyd, or Reading Comprehension) using multi-sensory tools.
Practical Application (15 mins): Interactive games, storytelling, or school homework support to see the theory in action.
The Confidence Booster (5 mins): Reviewing wins and setting a small, achievable goal for the next session.

My expertise is specifically tailored for Primary School learners (Grade R to Grade 7). I am the ideal tutor for:
