About Miranda

Hello! My name is Miranda, I grew up in London in the United Kingdom, and I have been tutoring English for just over 3 years. Having studied French, I understand the complexities of learning a new language, and I would love to help you work through it in a friendly and comfortable environment! I love travelling, sports (especially football/soccer), music and movies. I have very varied interests and love to learn more about different cultures, so whatever your interests are, I am sure we can find something in common to talk about!

I love teaching, and I think it is a great way to learn more about other cultures and people around the world. I am a very friendly and open person, so if you have any questions or you're curious about anything, just ask! I can do intensive courses, or more relaxed conversational ones - whatever your goals are, I'm sure I can help :)

English is my first language, and through my degree in law at the University of Bristol, I was able to further enhance my written and spoken level of the language. Throughout university, I taught English as a second language. I have been travelling around the world for the last year, and it has helped me realise how important speaking English is. Many of the people I have met do not speak English fluently, and it has been difficult for them to adapt when so few people speak their native language. I would therefore love to help you enhance your English language skills so you can settle into any English speaking environment comfortably!

About the lesson

I want to help create a relaxed environment for you to learn English more comfortably. In our first lesson, we will discuss your goals moving forwards and what learning style best works for you. Whether you prefer to have independent work to practice in your own time, or to keep your learning focussed mainly in our sessions, we will find the right set up for you. I have experience tutoring in a formal and structured manner if this works best for you, and I also have experience with more informal, conversational learning if you believe this would take the pressure away a bit more. If you don’t know where to start, just let me know and we can work together to find the best option for you!

I have spent around six years tutoring multiple subjects, including maths, French, and primarily English. I began tutoring English as a second language almost four years ago, whilst at University. It was important to me that international students were able to fit into the university culture just as well as English students, which primarily relies on being able to communicate. I began arranging language meet-ups, where non-native English speakers could practice using English slang and terminology, and speaking more fluently and naturally. I also helped the international students to write, edit, and correct their essays and oral presentations in English.
Since I began travelling, I have continued these weekly international conversational meet-ups to help non-native speakers practice their English in an informal and friendly setting.

I also worked in an international office, where many different languages were spoken. As the employees could work in whatever their preferred language was, some of them did not have the same English skills as their colleagues. I helped tutor a few of my colleagues in business-related English, helping them with terminology and helping them to write and speak at a more formal level.
I have also taught English to young children, using fun games and topics that interest them, such as their favourite TV shows.

I am comfortable teaching all levels of English - whatever your goal is, I'm sure I can help you reach it!
