About Tyler
I was a head tutor at the Plangere Writing Center at Rutgers University-New Brunswick and recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in philosophy and mathematics.
I have extensive experience tutoring expository & technical writing, ESL, and philosophical essay writing.
An essay I wrote, entitled 'Against Explanatory Condemnation', is set to be published by Johns Hopkins University in September 2020.

My approach varies depending on the particular type of writing. In regard to expository and philosophical writing, the general approach is as follow:
1. Discuss the motivating question or topic in order to draw out the most successful reply.
2. Discuss how the student intends to defend their thesis and if appropriate, work on an outline.
3. Have the student begin a draft.
4. Go through each sentence with the student and discuss each sentences purpose. By doing so, any grammatical errors can be easily addressed and the argument can be made stronger/more concise.
Technical writing and ESL follow a similar structure but more time is dedicated to formalizing an outline and determining what is necessary (and what is tangential) for a successful paper.

Details
I charge an additional $5 per hour for ESL. If you would like me to read the materials you are working with prior to our meeting, I charge $5-$10 depending on the length of the article/chapter (subject to my ability to obtain the relevant passages).
