About Joel
I am a working artist, teacher, curator and art writer. I have successfully worked 33 years for the NYC DOE setting up and teaching High school students, getting them ready for both art colleges and personal development. I am currently retired and painting full time. Expertise includes figure painting, collage, comics and cartooning, public murals. I am a proficient painter in acrylics myself, exhibiting internationally. I have also curated exhibitions for several galleries, alternative spaces and museums. My teacher skill won a teaching grant from UJA/COJECO in 2014.

I believe in the personal unique artistic voice of each student developed through technical mastery and work. Although each student has a different skill set and level, each student can harness their creativity through their own personal experience. I am also well trained in cross-curriculum linkages with academic disciplines such as ELA, Social Studies and math as well as grounding art in a larger social dialogue.
