About Reza

Building Confidence Through Experience and Professionalism

I bring more than twenty-eight years of experience in teaching English, supported by a Ph.D. in English Language Teaching and a strong academic background in methodology, curriculum design, and applied linguistics. Over the course of my career, I have taught students of all ages, levels, and goals in a variety of educational settings—from universities and colleges to individualized tutoring—across different countries and cultures. This breadth of experience allows me to quickly understand each learner’s needs and provide focused, effective guidance.

Students can expect a structured yet supportive learning environment where clarity, patience, and mutual respect are central. I believe that confidence is built when learners feel understood and when lessons are carefully tailored to their goals—whether academic success, professional communication, or overall language improvement. My approach combines academic rigor with encouragement, helping students progress steadily while feeling comfortable to ask questions, take risks, and grow.

Professionalism is at the heart of my work. I prepare thoroughly for every session, provide constructive feedback, and design lessons that are purposeful, engaging, and aligned with proven educational principles. Having spent decades studying and applying the major theories of teaching and learning, I ensure that every lesson is not only practical but also grounded in sound pedagogy.

My aim is to create a learning partnership in which students feel supported, motivated, and confident in their ability to succeed.

Teaching Philosophy, Methodology, and Tutoring Approach

With over twenty-eight years of experience in teaching English as a second/foreign language and holding a Ph.D. in English Language Teaching, my professional journey has been grounded in both rigorous academic study and extensive classroom practice. My M.A. thesis focused on the Task-Based Approach, a foundation that continues to inform my learner-centered methodology today.

Throughout my career, I have studied, taught, and applied a wide spectrum of language teaching theories and methodologies, including communicative language teaching, task-based learning, constructivist approaches, and contemporary research in second language acquisition. I have completed comprehensive coursework in teaching methodologies, learning theories, curriculum design, and applied pedagogy, enabling me to move beyond any single method and adopt an informed, flexible, and context-sensitive approach. Rather than adhering rigidly to one model, I integrate theory with practice to respond to learners’ actual needs, goals, and learning styles.

I have taught English in diverse educational and cultural settings—including Malaysia, Iran, and Canada—working with students across all proficiency levels and academic contexts, from colleges and universities to professional and general language programs. These international experiences have strengthened my ability to adapt instruction to multicultural classrooms and varied learner expectations while maintaining high academic standards.

Teaching Methodology

My methodology is learner-centered, task-oriented, and outcomes-driven. I emphasize meaningful language use rather than mechanical practice, designing lessons that require learners to interact, negotiate meaning, and apply language in authentic contexts. Key principles of my teaching include:
• Integrating skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) rather than teaching them in isolation
• Using purposeful tasks to promote real communication and critical thinking
• Scaffolding learning to build both accuracy and fluency
• Providing continuous formative feedback to guide improvement
• Encouraging learner autonomy and confidence through reflective learning strategies

I view language as a tool for communication, identity, and academic success, and my instruction aims to develop both linguistic competence and the ability to use language effectively in real-life and academic situations.

Typical Lesson Structure
A typical lesson follows a pedagogically sequenced framework:
1. Needs-Based Warm-Up: Activating prior knowledge and introducing the communicative purpose of the lesson.
2. Input and Noticing: Exposure to authentic or semi-authentic language with guided analysis of structure, vocabulary, and discourse features.
3. Task Cycle: Students engage in meaningful tasks such as problem-solving, discussion, academic analysis, or writing, using language as a tool rather than an end in itself.
4. Language Focus: Targeted attention to accuracy, form, and refinement based on learner performance during the task.
5. Feedback and Reflection: Constructive feedback combined with learner self-assessment to consolidate progress and build independence.
6. Extension/Application: Transfer of learning to new contexts to ensure retention and practical usability.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

What distinguishes me is the combination of deep theoretical knowledge and decades of real-world teaching experience. Having worked through virtually all major theories of teaching and learning, I bring not only familiarity with methodology but also the critical ability to select, adapt, and implement what truly works for each learner.

My strengths include:
• The ability to diagnose learners’ needs quickly and design targeted instruction
• Experience across multiple educational systems and cultural contexts
• A balance of academic rigor and supportive mentoring
• Commitment to developing confident, independent users of English rather than passive learners
• A reflective, research-informed practice shaped by lifelong engagement with pedagogy and curriculum development

Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is not merely to teach English, but to empower learners with the linguistic, academic, and communicative competence necessary to succeed in their specific personal, professional, or scholarly environments.
