About JiaYi
Hi! I’m Jocelyn, a native Mandarin speaker currently studying Secondary Education and Science at Monash University. I have previous one-to-one Chinese tutoring experience as well as teaching placement experience in an Australian secondary school.
I’m friendly, patient, and encouraging, and I genuinely enjoy helping students learn Chinese in a way that feels comfortable and enjoyable. I understand that learning a new language can sometimes feel challenging, so I want my students to feel confident asking questions and making mistakes.
For me, teaching Chinese is not only about vocabulary and grammar — I also love sharing the language, culture, and everyday expressions that make Chinese interesting and useful in real life. My goal is to help students gradually become more confident and enjoy using Mandarin.

My Chinese lessons are personalised to each student’s age, level and learning goals. As a native Mandarin speaker, I can support students with speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary. For younger learners, I like to make lessons interactive through games, stories, pictures and everyday conversations so that learning Chinese feels enjoyable rather than stressful.
A typical lesson is around 60 minutes, but this can be adjusted depending on the student’s age and needs. I have previous one-to-one Chinese tutoring experience and am currently studying Secondary Education at Monash University, with practical teaching experience in a secondary school.
My lessons are suitable for children, teenagers and beginners who want to learn Mandarin, improve their school Chinese, practise speaking, or become more confident using Chinese in everyday situations.
