About Ly-ann
I hold a BA (First Class Honors) in English Literature and Art History, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and am a Registered IEW Structure & Style Instructor.
As both an educator and a parent, I value writing instruction that is explicit, systematic and encouraging. I believe children become confident writers when we give them reliable tools, model how those tools work, and provide enough guided practice for them to eventually use them independently.

I am a former MOE English and Literature teacher, Registered IEW Structure & Style Instructor, and educator with 20 years of teaching experience from primary through tertiary level.
My writing lessons are built around three things: STYLE, STRUCTURE and STORYCRAFT.
Students learn Structure so they know how to organize ideas clearly, Style so they can develop stronger and more varied sentences, and Storycraft so their writing has purpose, character, motivation and movement.
I model skills, we practice them together, and students gradually apply them more independently. We work with keyword outlines, paragraph structure, writing stylistics, hooks, character motivation and other techniques appropriate to each student’s level.
Lessons are typically 90 minutes and are suitable for Primary and Lower Secondary students, with expectations adjusted according to the student’s age, writing experience and current level. My aim is not simply to produce a better composition today, but to give students a practical set of writing tools they can increasingly use for themselves.
