About Ashley
My name is Ashley Winfield, and I am a current student at Messiah University in central Pennsylvania. I am studying elementary education and pursuing minors in special education and dance, with the aspirations of becoming an elementary teacher in the upper elementary grades (3rd-6th). I have always loved learning and enjoy sharing my passion for learning with other. I understand that everyone learns differently, and I tailor my lessons and strategies to each student with whom I work. I use evidence-based practices to help students achieve their goals and fill in gaps where they may not understand certain content. I have experience working with students with diverse needs, learning difficulties, and English language learners. I offer tutoring in math, reading, and writing.

As a tutor, I like to make sure my students truly understand what they are struggling with. Making sure my students' questions are answered and that they are confident in the material is my highest priority. In math, I break down concepts slowly and step by step, explaining the purpose of each step along the way. With gradual release of responsibility, students are able to follow along until they are able to successfully complete problems on their own. In writing, I help students brainstorm and use numerous evidence-based revising strategies to strengthen student writing. I value giving both positive and constructive feedback. I take great care in tailoring lessons to the individual student, which sets me apart as a tutor. I am willing and able to work with students ranging from elementary school through high school, both in person and remotely.
