About Cheri
Fundamentally, I believe in utilizing a holistic pedagogical approach, which enriches the academic and wider lives of all my learners. I believe we, as educators, should strive to continually evolve and become more inclusive of all identities present not only in our classroom, but in the wider world, to develop conscientious and reflective members of a constantly changing society. Through my pedagogical approach, I seek to help develop learners’ enthusiasm for active learning so that they continue to grow and enjoy lifelong educational journeys.
Thanks to my experiences supporting fantastic learners and alongside outstanding teachers, I am confident in my abilities as an educator, and have high expectations of myself. I also apply this to all of my learners who I thoroughly enjoy building strong positive relationships with, allowing me to get the best out of them. Throughout my own educational journey while training and within formal observations, my mentors described my manner with learners as “calm and encouraging”, as well as “enthusiastic and engaging”. This reflects my ability to inspire learners through demonstrating my confidence in their abilities, enabling them to trust that I know what they need and will provide opportunities for them to be challenged and extended. I always aim to be a source of motivation for learners, when they lack self-esteem, giving meaningful feedback to rebuild this. I have effectively done this using restorative and cooperative approaches, especially when a behavior strategy is cohesively and consistently implemented. Creating this positive environment has allowed me to manage challenging behaviors, and refocus learners or resolve conflicts and promote excellent behaviors for learning.
I have also recently achieved the first level community coaching accreditation, working alongside a local cricket club to assist with junior coaching. I have engaged this and other extracurricular interests with learners during English, DT, Music, PSHE, History and Geography lessons, with positive responses of enjoyment, some learners highlighting that elements of my interests have resonated with them, strengthening social and cultural connections in incredibly diverse classrooms.
I pride myself on bringing abundant enthusiasm to any lesson and providing exciting, engaging opportunities for learners, remaining a source of confidence and motivation for them every day. I would be delighted to be able to do this with you, too.

My approach to teaching is engaging and focused, ensuring all my learners feel comfortable and confident. I feel it is important to build positive relationships with learners by encouraging them to learn from challenges rather than be blocked by them. I also see value in drawing on engaging and specific material so that learners feel the content is interesting, and that they can progress through being stretched further than their current ability, so as not to remain stuck. It is also important for my learners to engage in metacognition, so they are aware of what and why they are learning content rather than rote learning, meaning they will be able to contextualise their knowledge and draw on it independently going forward.
I have an undergraduate degree in Education Studies, Qualified Teacher Status and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (UK trained). Additionally, I have 5+ years of experience working with children aged 5-11 in schools, as both a teaching assistant and a class teacher. I have taught children of vastly varying academic abilities, needs, backgrounds, and language proficiencies. I have lots of experience working with learners with SEND needs, including Autism, ADHD, Global Delay, Speech Delay, and more.
Lesson duration varies; 60 minutes for single sessions. I'm happy to do online or in-person sessions.
I have a full Working With Children Check and a Police Check alongside my visa. If you require any other information or you'd like to book with me, please do not hesitate to reach out.
