About Kashish

Hi. I'm Kashish. I have completed my International Baccalaureate and I current study medicine. I have studied in a grammar school (awarded best school of the decade), my interest in biology, chemistry and maths is what drew me to tutoring. Any subject-no matter how difficult- can be learned when its taught with simplicity. I have taught 11+, GCSE, A-Level and Gujarati to students aged 5-15. I thoroughly enjoy making complex concepts easier in a way that can be interpreted with ease by all. Reading a copy of BNF was what encouraged my interest in pharmacy. I further pursued my interest by volunteering at a pharmacy over the course of two years. I got an opportunity to dispense and advise over the counter drugs under the supervision of a pharmacist. The experience taught me the importance of tailoring a sensitive and understanding approach to each individual. However it also taught me the importance of communication as many patients had language barriers, where the use of technology, hand gestures and multilingual skills needed to be applied.

In summer of 2018, I got an opportunity from The Scholars Programme to present how CRISPR/Cas9 works whilst considering its moral and ethical implications. The extensive and thorough research of the intricacies of proteins and enzymes that enable genetic modification, allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how useful it is for patients diagnosed by chronic illnesses like cystic fibrosis. To show my support for patients, I participated in 10,000 steps sponsored walks to raise funds for numerous charities like Alzheimer's society, The British Heart Foundation and Maa, a charity dedicated for maternal healthcare in developing countries.

The IB Diploma has laid the foundation of my chemistry knowledge needed to study Pharmacy. My IA: ‘How does changing positive ions in solutions affect the time taken for them to melt from an ice cube to liquid solution?’. This gave me an opportunity to spend over 15 hours on independent laboratory research, allowing me to improve my laboratory skills and to produce an academic writing explaining my findings. In biology, the study of epigenetics gave me an insight into how outside factors have an impact on the way genes work. Recently having enrolled in a 7 week course by Harvard University about The Health Effects of Climate Change, the course interrelates my understanding of geography and biology and I thoroughly enjoy the course as it allows me to work independently at my own pace.

Being a Volunteer Police Cadet helped me gain an insight into British policing as well as having opportunities to support my local community through volunteering and social projects. Despite it being physically straining, I developed new skills, met people from various different backgrounds and taught me the importance of punctuality. As a volunteer, I also learned to be a good listener and to follow orders accordingly in order to fulfil my duties. As the vice head girl at Plumstead Manor School, I was responsible for assigning prefect duties, working together with the school council and teachers to make the school a place where students thrive in the learning environment. As a team we invited organisations from all backgrounds to inform students about the significance of mental health, women's safety and hygiene.

I have also actively taken part in my local community. During the first lockdown, I helped deliver groceries and emergency medications to those self-isolating. The service taught me the importance of unity, how crucial it is to uplift others in devastating times. Public speaking is another way in which I contribute to my community, for example: in November of 2021 where I was invited by the council to represent my Hindu temple to speak about the Diwali in front of dignified guests like MPs, Mayor, Councillors and Queen Representatives. At numerous occasions, I have found speaking in front of large audiences nerve-wracking but every time it has made me more confident and helped me encourage others to do the same.
