About Sophia
Hello everyone! My name is Sophia, and it is a pleasure to meet you. I am a recent BSc Psychology Alumnus from McGill University, and a poetry, art, and travel enthusiast. My interest for psychology quickly developed when I was bored during a week of March break years ago when in grade 10, and decided to take an online Intro to Psychology course taught by UBC through edx.org. It was then that I realized how fun learning something you're genuinely interested in can be! I am now on my path towards pursuing a career in interpersonal relational counselling. Currently, I spend my days working as a research assistant for two psychology graduate students at McGill, interning at the Montreal Fluency Centre, co-hosting and running monthly open-mic poetry nights, working at the McGill Peer Support Centre, and exploring the city of Montreal during these warm summer days.
My enthusiasm for tutoring began in 2019, when I worked as an Alumnus tutor at Marianopolis College and tutored fellow students in Calculus and Linear Algebra. In 2020, I began tutoring English, French, Calculus and Linear Algebra at Superprof. My most recent tutoring experience is at my clinical internship at the Montreal Fluency Centre, where I work one-on-one with high school students to help them develop independent learning strategies. That is, I teach students how to learn school topics, focused around techniques that are personally most adaptive to them. As your own personal tutor, I will work with you to uncover and develop your own personal learning strategies most adaptive to how you learn the wonders of psychology. Different topics in psychology may also require different forms of learning strategies!
I would love to support learners of psychology as they get acquainted with the field and develop a deeper understanding of its workings. As I have been a student myself for 18 years of my life, I definitely know how challenging school can be. I understand the frustrations with learning psychology-- I've been there myself! Throughout my time studying psychology, I've developed some tips to help make that learning experience a smoother ride, and have graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.84 (A-) out of 4.0 (A). Hi everybody! If you are here reading this, thank you for taking an interest in my courses! I'm happy you're here, and I'd love the opportunity to guide you through your course work as we work together to help you establish the best possible understanding of the course material. Here's a little bit about me! I am a BSc Psychology Alumnus from McGill University, pursuing my passion of learning about psychology and human behaviour. My aim is to become a counselling psychologist in the future. I love people and I love getting to know my students. I definitely know how challenging it can be to understand course material sometimes, so I make it my priority to explain topics in the most clear way I can. These are all courses where I've obtained an A or an A-. I can provide personal notes and tools to help foster a deeper understanding of psychology-related material. I focus on working together with the student, so that they are also free to guide the tutoring lessons based on what they feel they need the most help with. Therefore, my classes are flexible and based on the student's needs. Classes will be based on the student's questions, and I will guide the student through practice scenarios and examples that have helped me in grasping a better understanding of the material. The level of instruction is intended for high school or college students pursuing psychology courses. I highly recommend Sophia as the next teacher you hire. She is one of the most kind and understanding people you've ever meet. She creates this space where you feel like you can ask any question no matter how dumb you might think it is and it's welcomed. She is incredible at explaining tough topics and will be empathetic and encouraging when you might not understand. She will take her time to make sure you feel comfortable and confident with every topic. I would wish you the best in whatever class you're taking, but having Sophia as your teacher ensures it. TLDR; She is the teacher you would want by your side for each and every class.
Sophia is such a great tutor! I was struggling in calculus 2 and she really helped me understand the material. I finished with an overall grade in the 90s thanks to her help!
Sophia is super consistent and dedicated. Whenever I need more time to understand something, she always takes the time to really review things with me. Her focus is really on comprehension and absorption of knowledge, not speed. I highly recommend!

Details
Free cancelation if I am notified at least 24 hrs before the scheduled meeting time, so that the opened spot can go to another client. If I am not notified within 24hrs, there is a charge of the session at 50%.
I can teach in groups as well! For every additional person added to the group during a session, there is a $2 discount per person per hour. For example, for a group of 2 people, I charge $18/hr for each person, for a total of $36 for the hour.
