About Andrew
Hi! I'm Andrew, currently studying Economics at University College London (UCL).
Beginning with my academic journey, I completed my Cambridge A-Levels as the #1 overall student nationally in Mauritius, ranking 1st out of 7,425 candidates with near-full raw marks across my subjects and receiving the prestigious SSR National Scholarship as the country's top National Laureate.
Alongside my overall national ranking, I received Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards for Top in the World in A-Level Physics and Top in the World in A-Level Chemistry, as well as Top in Mauritius in A-Level Mathematics. I achieved A*s in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and subsequently self-studied the entire Further Mathematics A-Level, in which I also achieved an A*. I also hold an A in AS-Level Biology and AS-Level English General Paper. At O-Level, I was also awarded Top in the World in Physics and Chemistry, alongside national rankings in Biology and Additional Mathematics.
My academic journey has given me a particularly strong understanding of and close familiarity with Cambridge examinations and what is required to progress from understanding a subject to performing consistently at the highest level under examination conditions. However, some of my most rewarding and satisfying experiences have come from helping other students achieve their own academic goals.
I began tutoring during secondary school and have since taught more than 30 students across Mathematics and the sciences. Over 10 of these students subsequently achieved Top-10 national subject rankings at O-Level and A-Level in Mauritius. Running my own tutoring group has allowed me to work with students of different abilities, personalities and learning styles: from students looking to rebuild their confidence and foundations to highly ambitious students targeting A*s, near-full marks and national awards. That experience was truly enjoyable, and I look forward to continuing my tutoring journey.
Beyond academics, I am an ABRSM Grade 8 pianist and have competed in tennis at national level. These experiences have also shaped the patience, discipline and consistency that I bring to my teaching.
Having recently gone through the same examinations that many of my current and future students are preparing for, I understand both the academic demands and the pressure that can accompany them. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, delving into exam technique, making mistakes and challenging themselves, all while maintaining the structure and high standards needed to make meaningful academic progress.
Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy teaching and sharing the techniques, insights and lessons that I have accumulated throughout my own academic journey. Irrespective of a student's goals and academic ambitions, I would be delighted to help them work towards them.

Over the course of my own learning journey, I have developed my approach to tutoring to be highly personalised, structured and exam-focused. From personal experience, I firmly believe that achieving excellent results (and even near-full marks) in Mathematics and the sciences comes from thoroughly understanding fundamental concepts and first principles, rather than relying on rote memorisation or spoon-feeding.
I therefore focus first on building strong foundations before developing the problem-solving skills and exam technique needed to tackle increasingly challenging questions with confidence. Depending on each student's goals, I can also offer highly tailored advice. For instance, for a student already performing at an A/A* level and aiming for near-full marks, I can share preparation strategies designed to secure those final two or three marks, as well as exam techniques to minimise avoidable errors under pressure.
At the beginning, I identify each student's strengths, weaknesses and individual goals. Lessons are then tailored according to the student's objectives and starting level: I explain difficult concepts step-by-step, work through carefully selected examples, and gradually encourage students to solve increasingly challenging and unfamiliar problems independently. As students become more comfortable with unfamiliar and challenging questions, I also share exam-day techniques and paper-specific strategies that I developed throughout my own preparation. I place particular emphasis on past-paper questions, exam technique, common mistakes and the small details that can make the difference between a good grade and an A/A*, or, for the most ambitious students, a "Top in Country" or "Top in World" award.
Having achieved 1st place overall nationally out of 7,425 A-Level candidates as the SSR Mauritius National Scholarship Laureate, as well as Top in the World awards in A-Level Physics and Chemistry and Top in Mauritius in A-Level Mathematics, I have first-hand experience of preparing for Cambridge examinations at the highest level, achieving near-full raw marks across my subjects. I achieved A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, including self-studying the entire Further Mathematics A-Level.
I also have extensive tutoring experience gained during and after my secondary-school years, having taught more than 30 students in Mathematics and the sciences, with over 10 of my students subsequently achieving Top-10 national subject rankings at O-Level and A-Level in Mauritius. This experience has reinforced my belief that every student learns differently, so I adapt my explanations, techniques, pace and choice of questions to the individual. Running my own tutoring group has also given me experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities, learning styles and academic goals, allowing me to understand how different students respond to different approaches and adapt my teaching accordingly.
Lessons typically last 60–70 minutes and are available for O-Level/GCSE/IGCSE and A-Level students studying Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, as well as Biology at O-Level/GCSE/IGCSE, particularly for those following Cambridge CAIE syllabuses. However, I am also familiar with other examination boards and can adapt my teaching to students preparing for these qualifications.
I am equally happy to work with students who need help strengthening their foundations and confidence, as well as high-achieving students aiming for A/A* grades, near-full marks or academic awards.
Above all, I genuinely enjoy helping students overcome challenging topics and develop the understanding, confidence and independent problem-solving ability that will allow them to succeed throughout their studies and examinations.
